After a long debate about Carver Gym’s fate, the City of Marked Tree donated it to two residents.
Jeremy and Jarmel Bell plan to renovate the gym by partnering with Haag Brown Commercial Real Estate and Development and Ritter Communications.
“We will apply for grants for program funding,” Jeremy said.
The Bells plan to use the gym as an activity center.
“The activity center would be a great place for us to teach youth about having a healthy lifestyle, academic achievements, and character education,” Jeremy said.
They also want to add exercise programs for adults.
One boy who often visits the park next to the gym hopes the plans go through.
Jakaymion Williams said kids in the area do not have anywhere else to go, and this would bring fun back to the neighborhood.
“I hope to see the kids in the gym having some fun and having the time of their lives,” Williams said.
Jeremy said their target date for completion is next August.
“It depends on funding and donations,” he said.
The city is currently improving the park area. They have already finished repainting the basketball courts.
