Jonesboro, AR – A piece of Jonesboro history is getting a makeover.
Haag Brown Commercial announced Tuesday THAYS, LLC has purchased the former Coca-Cola Bottling Plant, located at the corner of Caraway and Highland.
THAYS, according to a news release, plans to re-develop the 55,000 square-foot building into a Hays Clothing store.
Hays is a local family-owned and operated business known for their amazing customer service and large selection of name brand clothing, hunting apparel, western wear, and furniture, the release stated.
Hays has stores in Judsonia and Searcy.
After years of prayers, dreams and requests for Hays to open a store in Jonesboro, we are finally making it a reality, said Monte Hays, co-owner of Hays. We chose Jonesboro primarily off of the fact that it is a growing, Christian community. Arkansas State creates an inviting atmosphere and we felt that is where God was leading us.
When we came and looked at the building, we felt the Lord wanted us here, said Terry Hays, co-owner of Hays. We were blessed to have this opportunity because we’re a perfect fit with Jonesboro. We fell in love with this building right when we walked in here, the industrial look. A lot of people wanted us here and God opened the door in a fast way so we’re coming fast.
Renovations on the building are expected to begin immediately with the store expected to open in early November.
The store plans to hire at least 100 employees.
It is rewarding to take a building sitting dormant for over five years and turn it into something employing over 100 people and generating millions per year in tax revenue, said Joshua Brown, principal of Haag Brown Commercial.
Mayor Harold Perrin echoed Brown’s enthusiasm, saying, It is always good to see an existing building remodeled and a new business open in our city.
Terry Hays said future shoppers can also look forward to brands that Jonesboro does not have, including Vineyard Vines and Southern Tide.
We’re going to bring something Jonesboro has never had, he said. Our unique, one-stop shop will have something for the entire family.
